2016 Summer Feeding Program in Gretna

WEDF will be hosting a Summer Feeding Program for school-aged youth in the Gretna neighborhood of McDonoghville at the Gretna Community Center.  The program will commence June 13th as we partner with Second Harvest Food Bank to provide meals for our kids.  WEDF will be providing breakfast and bag lunches for approximately 100 kids.  We are also seeking to provide summer camp activities for our youth with a field trip or two to educational and recreational sites here in the New Orleans area.

USDA Rural Housing Seminar

WEDF is partnering with the local USDA office to pre-screen and qualify residents here in Gretna to utilize Home Owner grants and the 502 & 504 Low Income Loan programs.  The two-hour seminar is scheduled to be held 11AM - 1PM, Wednesday October 7th at the Gretna Community Center.  We will be announcing information with the assistance of local media.

Entergy Seed Donation

WEDF would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our friends and supporters at Entergy for a seed donation of $1000.  We can now purchase the containers and dispensers necessary to facilitate the continuance of our Senior Luncheon Series.  WEDF will be able to more effectively communicate with neighboring communities regarding upcoming senior-oriented events.

Executive Director Appointed

Recently, WEDF appointed Dana C. Walker, Sr. as the Executive Director of the foundation.  Mr. Walker, who founded and has served as Board President of WEDF, has overseen day to day operations since our inception.  In our endeavors to operate with full accountability to our donors and sponsors, we at WEDF felt that it was more than appropriate to officially appoint Mr. Walker as director of our daily operations.

Silverback Society

WEDF may be partnering with the Silverback Society during the upcoming school year.  It is our goal to provide the mentors for the young men and access to hands on career counseling and job training.
